Was looking for a new home for my 2008 Liberty after 80,000 miles of overpriced but adequate care by the dealer. Googled on Jeep maintenance and my zip code, and among the responses, Outback Automotive stood out with positive reviews.
My A/C quit at the end of a Florida vacation, so I dropped in on Outback to check it out and maybe make an appointment. Owner Jeff Dernehl himself listened to me (“looking for someone to adopt my Jeep and treat it like he’d treat his own kids’ vehicle”). He popped the hood, eyeballed and listened, and told me I had an emergency since the compressor was shot and its pulley wobbling. If the belt “went,” so too could the entire system.
SOB if he didn’t work me in for the next day. I had counted on 2 – 3 days; he had it done the same day, and found the time to change oil and plugs to boot.
Something comforting about a shop that specializes in Jeeps, with an owner who builds and races as a hobby. Thanks Jeff!
