We've always been happy with Affordable, but this last time left us frustrated. We dropped off our truck for a power steering leak repair, oil change and since it was already in the shop, an inspection even though we weren't due for another 2.5 weeks. We already knew there was a leak in the PS line and we told them this. Because of this new warranty policy they have, we could not afford the cost of the power steering line assembly, because they "had" to use a dealer part, which the service advisor said was more part than we needed. They would not accept any other type of part (like a fabricated part) or used part bc it would violate their warranty policy. I appreciate a good warranty but I have to say, in situations like this, where a used part would be acceptable, this warranty policy takes options away from the customer. There should be an option to waive the part warranty. I worked at Affordable for 3 years under different ownership and we wanted to work WITH our customers' budgets and give them all reasonable options so they could make the decision. We had to do the repair elsewhere ($400 cheaper) because Affordable only gave us that one option of a full assembly with a brand new dealer part - nearly $1000 parts and labor after markup. But what really made us upset was the fact that our inspection was current for another 2.5 weeks - we were early on the inspection. Even though we had already informed them of the PS leak (in other words, it was not found as a result of the inspection), they slapped a rejection sticker on the truck, effectively starting the 15 day clock for us to find a part or get the $1000 together. Customer courtesy would have been to give us our estimate, give us the choice to go ahead with the repair or not, THEN complete the inspection if we chose to do the repair. To reject it when our sticker was current was either doing the work out of order or pressuring us to get it done at Affordable (which we would have done if they would have allowed us to use a used part). Maybe if you have an unlimited budget, Affordable is a good choice bc I do think the work they do is great, but in this case, the customer care was very lacking.
