Things did not go well after my cleaning. Within an hour after my cleaning I could feel the onset of the symptoms of an infection, increasing temperature and chills. This was very alarming to me because I have artificial knees and infections in man made joints are extremely difficult to cure. I went to urgent care and they were right on it. They drew two blood cultures to identify the infection and prescribed antibiotics until the cultures could be grown and identified.
The rest of the story is that I have been advised to take a broad spectrum antibiotic prior to dental work and I forgot to do it. I can't say for sure if the antibiotic would have prevented the infection. However, I will minimize my exposure in the future by minimizing my cleanings.
