I would never ever take my dogs hear again. First of all... dr meeker should never b a vet. He isn't nice to the animals and he is a very rude person. I got way over charged for what he did to my dog. Over $800 for what?? An X-ray and some cathaders. Then he wanted me to put her under. I will b telling everyone to not take there dog here!!!! He was so worried about getting "screwed" on payment from another customer. I'm going to spread the word.
Lori, we are sorry you feel this way. You brought your dog, Mimi, to see Dr. Meakin, on 9/9/2017, for urinary issues ? trouble urinating, squatting frequently, & foul-smelling urine. Previous to this, none of your dogs had ever been examined by any of our doctors. Even though, in June 2017, you began coming to our office to buy Nexgard (flea/tick prevention). Upon examination, Dr. Meakin immediately discovered a life-threatening, urinary obstruction in Mimi?s urethra. Mimi needed to have an emergency catheterization procedure, to remove the urinary obstruction so she could pass urine. In order to do this life-saving procedure, Dr. Meakin had to fully sedate Mimi. Otherwise, inserting a catheter into an awake pet would be very painful and, likely, impossible. That is why Mimi had to be put under. Dr. Meakin recruited two of our technicians to stay after-hours & help him provide Mimi with the care she needed. Before proceeding, an estimate was given to you, for Mimi?s emergency procedure, estimated at a low-end of $662.50 & a high-end of $1,077.50. We asked you to leave about half of the low-end of Mimi?s estimate about $350-400, before we provided her with emergency, overnight care. Most owners appreciate our policy of providing a care estimate before proceeding with treatment, so our clients know the estimated cost they can expect. However, sometimes, as in this case, this can be misconstrued as a negative policy. You stated that you definitely wanted us to proceed, then, after we asked you to leave half of the low-end of the estimate, you spent the next 45 minutes attempting to find the funds to cover that. In this time, Mimi?s treatment was being delayed. We assume you do not understand the urgency of an un-treated urinary obstruction. After realizing how uncomfortable Mimi was, Dr. Dan decided to make an exception for Mimi?s health, & accepted a reduced deposit ($200 of the $350-$400 we had asked you to leave). We then proceeded with Mimi?s emergency procedure. Unlike what you stated, Mimi did not just receive x-rays & a catheter. In fact, she received an exam, multiple x-rays, an IV catheter, IV fluids, general gas anesthesia, antibiotics, pain medication, & the procedure to unblock her urinary tract. After a struggle to get through the numerous blood clots in her urethra, Dr. Meakin managed to drain Mimi?s bladder of the putrid, bloody, dark urine that had been stuck in her bladder for 24-48 hours. While sedated, he repeated the draining, flushing her 3 more time to ensure that Mimi?s urethra was clear. After her bladder was drained, he then proceeded to flush saline & an anti-inflammatory agent into her urethra, to help reduce the odds that Mimi?s urinary tract would become blocked again. He collected samples for biopsy & culture to identify the cause of the obstruction; however, you chose not to have them submitted to the lab, due to the extra cost. After Dr. Dan managed to get Mimi?s urine flowing, he then inserted a contrast agent & room air to do a double contrast cytogram of Mimi?s urethra & bladder to rule out bladder stones & help diagnose the cause of Mimi?s condition. An ultrasound showed numerous blood clots in her bladder, & rectal palpation had revealed an unusually thickened urethra. Two of our nurses stayed by Mimi?s side until she was awake, comfortable, & stable. Pain medication & antibiotics were given to her, & she was checked on numerous times throughout the night by our overnight technician. Dr. Meakin called you, at 9:30 PM, & explained that the blood clots & blockage could be signs of Transitional Cell Carcinoma (urethral or bladder cancer), & that a more in-depth workup may need to be done, at a later date. At the very least, he recommended a medication that would help reduce the chance of this happening again & slow down the possibility of cancer progression ? if cancer was even present. By the morning, Mimi was feeling much better & was urinating normally. She was released to you to take to another vet, for a second opinion. When you picked her up, you declined the medication that Dr. Meakin

Our visit was very informative and helpful. Our pet still has the bumps on her legs, so this may not be an allergy, but something she has had for some time - was never an issue before. Please let us know the results of the blood and urine test. Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback, Karen. We will get the results of Zoey's tests back to you ASAP. In the meantime, if you notice her bumps worsening or any other unusual symptoms, please contact us right away. Thank you for choosing & trusting All Creatures.
