Tech found an issue with low Freon on one of my units while doing a Spring PM on them ( PM already paid for), I was informed it would be $125 to leak check plus any Freon to bring back up to normal. The tech found that the coil was the problem and needed to be replaced. Parts were under warranty and the bill would be $ 650. The bill stated $125 leak check, $120 for Freon and $200 for ? . I was charged another $205 when the coil was installed. When I called back to find out what the $200 was for I was told the bill was written incorrectly and should have just said $650. In other words the tech should not have broke down the bill, just told the total amount. I know that everybody has to make a profit but $200 for unknown labor is a little much. Never got an answer for the charge.

Two years ago the blower fan went out and again the parts were under warranty, tech said need to replace fan and would replace the controller card just to be sure it was ok, it needed to be removed anyway to replace fan. Fan and card was ordered and installed. When I started to pay the pay the bill I was informed he had to charge $25 more because he had to program the new card. It had 4 or five slide switches on it that needed to be pushed up or down to match the old card. ( The new fan speed is not the same as the old fan speed ? )

In both cases the workmanship was good only the pricing was out the roof when it comes to time working.

HVAC business is a good business to be in, they have you over a barrel and know it.
