Great service for my dachshund

The medical team at Ashburn Animal Hospital put my pet in danger. They refused to see her (longtime patient) after four requests due to a serious injury for two days stating their schedule was too busy. They also specifically instructed us not to take her to Emergency care but to wait the two days until it was convenient for them to examine her. This caused her injury to worsen.

We have three dogs and a cat who have all been longtime patients of Ashburn Animal Hospital but will beave now to find a vet who values their patients' health over their, "too busy" schedule and is not concerned with losing revenue to an emergency hospital so providing dangerous medical advice. Looking for a pets first vet practice.

Ashburn Village Animal Hospital replied:

At AVAH, we value both new and longtime clients equally and we also value any feedback, good or bad, as we are always looking for ways to improve. However, we would like to clarify a couple of points since the events described are inaccurate. First, it is never our policy to put any patients in danger, as we are obviously in the business of helping all pets. Yes, we have been very busy every day, as every vet is nowadays. We are a small clinic and not an emergency hospital. We received a message on our voicemail Thursday night, while we were closed, with your concerns about your dog. The outgoing message on our voicemail instructs that if this is an emergency case, to seek emergency care along with a phone number to a local ER hospital. We called first thing when we opened on Friday and left a voicemail to call us back for an appointment. You called back at 9:30am Friday morning and mentioned a minor injury, so we offered either our next available appointment on Saturday at 8am or if you didn’t want to wait until Saturday, that you can definitely go to the ER to be seen if you thought it couldn’t wait. There was not one point during our dialog that you were instructed NOT to seek emergency care. You then reached out on Friday evening, after we were closed for appointments, demanding immediate care. At this time, you were again referred to the emergency hospital if there were any changes to her status and we explained that we did not have a doctor present in the building. After you declined emergency care, you then elected to keep your Saturday appointment. Upon examination of your dog on Saturday, you explained that you had not looked at her leg and it was apparent that the wound was more extreme than it was communicated to our staff. We treated your dog appropriately, which involved a referral to the ER to receive specialized and continued care due to the extent of her injury. We don’t appreciate the false claims as the health and care of each pet is very important to us. We have since heard that your dog is doing well and we hope she continues to make a full recovery. If you would like to seek alternative veterinary care, we are happy to send your records.
