My daughter and I have been to the Institute several times. We have generally liked the haircuts, with some stylists more capable than others of course. But each time we leave with finished, professional haircuts and blowouts.

My student was really good. However, I'm so frustrated with the dim lighting at the Aveda Institute. I went for a color retouch, and it's always only after I get home, that I see missed spots of grey on my hairline. I don't blame the students because I couldn't see the mistakes, at the salon. Only under NORMAL lighting, I was able to see where greys were missed.

Also having black shampoo bowls and black towels, don't help the students see when all of the hair dye has been washed out or not. Every time I get my hair colored, I go home and I have stains on my neck or if my nape or hair line gets wet and I towel dry, my towel is covered in hair dye.

No complains about the facial or the student but the overall ambiance of the spa has gone down. A spa is supposed to be a relaxing experience...there was no music, no water/tea ( I had to ask for it vs. it used to always be offered before) sheets on the massage bed were threadbare and spotted (though clean). I realize this is a training facility and perhaps the recession is hitting hard but these are simple things that make a huge difference in customer experience.

I have loved coming here for YEARS. The last year or two, I have left several appointments with a drenched shirt. I am so bummed. I am still getting quality hair care, but that takes away from the experience. Also, when I first started coming (years ago), the stylist would put essential oil in their hands for me to smell and then I'd get a temple massage. It was wonderful. I would love if you brought some of that customer service back.
