First visit since the Institute moved from DC to Arlington, and was really pleased! I was able to be taken back slightly early and my student was great. She worked with her instructor (who checked in frequently) to achieve to look I wanted. I am glad she did-and didn't mind at all; it's part of the learning process. The setting was a little cramped (especially where the shampoo bowls were) and missed the complementary tea/water from the DC location. That may have been a pandemic change-understandable.
I specifically scheduled an appointment for cut and color with a master student. When I arrived to the institute, I was scheduled for just a cut. The staff was able to accommodate me so I appreciate that. However, I was not given a master student. My cut and color took 4 hours. When I had a master student last time, my cut and color was done in 2, 2.5 hours. The person who is responsible for scheduling appointments need to pay more attention to the details of the requested appointment. The student who cut and colored my hair was good.
The stylist was very nice, and seemed confident in her cutting. However, the result I ended up with is not what I asked for, and not what I wanted. She seemed to mishear what I said, and after consulting with two instructors who praised the technical nature of the cut I didn't feel like pushing the issue.
I feel like the stylist did not listen to what I wanted, which was to have three to four inches trimmed off the length. She focused on the layering, but did not really take much off the overall length.
The haircut itself was fine but I'm not sure the student was ready for a customer. She forgot conditioner, parted my hair wrong, and seemed awfully concerned with how much time she was taking. At several points she lost her guide.
The quality of my haircut and attention to detail of my student stylist was amazing. I was impressed by the level of professionalism and the knowledge of the educator overseeing my cut. I only deduct stars because my entire wash, cut and blow dry took 3 hours.
