We apologize if you were surprised and disappointed when you got to the front desk at the end of your visit. We really make an effort to make sure clients are aware of prices before services are rendered. We never want clients leaving feeling uncomfortable in any way. We typically offer a typed up itemized estimate before rendering services. The doctor did ask you if you would like a typed up itemized estimate prior to any service. The estimate was declined and rather you requested a verbal ?rough? estimate. The bill ended up being $3.65 higher than the verbal estimate.
As far as purchasing medications online it is important that you understand that there is a possibility that the prescription drugs received from some vendors may be counterfeit and may not be approved by the FDA. This has occurred in the past and could recur. Many pharmaceuticals manufactured and labeled for use in other countries have been illegally diverted and sold through online pharmacies/catalogs. The manufacturers? warranties or guarantees for these products may not be valid. This means if your pets condition is not effectively treated with the products, or if your pet has a negative reaction, the manufacturer will not stand behind their products or products liability procedures. There are some medications that we feel comfortable recommending that are sold on certain sites but in general we do not recommend online pharmacies.
The $5.00 medical waste fee is a fee for any sharps used that must be disposed properly meeting OSHA requirements. The OSHA standard provides that regulated waste containing contaminated sharps be discarded in containers which are: a) closable, b) puncture resistant; c) leakproof on sides and bottom; and d) labeled or color-coded in accordance with the standard. It takes careful handling, expertise, time and materials needed to properly dispose of these items in a safe manner following OSHA requirements. There are special companies regulated by the state of NJ that disposes of these medical waste bins once they are sealed properly. Unfortunately there are fees associated with proper disposal of medical waste.
