If I were to write this review after my first class it would have been much different. Let me tell you, the first time you do Bikram Yoga you want to die, not that Bikram Yoga Tracy is in any way responsible for that. They are truly wonderful and do whatever possible to help each individual have the best experience they can. But some, like me, who are/were not expecting this overwhelming experience can be caught by surprise and never want to come back. I truly hated every minute of it. That said I can also say how surprised I was by how I felt an hour or two later. It’s amazing how much energy this practice gives you. Yes! it zaps you at first. But it gives back exponentially. The more you practice the faster your recovery, that’s why they have the one month introductory offer, so you can take a whole month to evaluate this practice. I’ve heard and read some really rough reviews regarding Bikram yoga, but I compare it to any other sport where you have a coach who wants to see you improve your skill. Yes, they can seem tough at times. Yes sometimes you are in a puddle of your own sweat, but so are b-ball, soccer, and tennis players. What about runners, bikers and rowers as well as perhaps every other athlete, they sweat with pride in their efforts. This is yoga that adds to the athletic performance, improves your quality of life, and gives you back mobility that is sometimes lost through life’s excursions. What I haven’t said yet is what it does for your disposition. You spend 90 minutes focused on you alone. No one else in the room matters. You learn to have patience as your body attempts to cooperate and that patience translates to other aspects of your life because you experience just how difficult it is to change old ways. And you really learn to appreciate complete relax. This is something EVERYONE should know. So give it a try. Go back the next day and the day after that. See how you feel then.
