Happy to have brought my cat in for treatment!!!

My cat Buddy was previously at another vet who basically said he didn't have ear mites and he was ok. The problem persisted so I looked up a Cat Only Vet . I am totally pleased with the result. Brookhaven Cat Hospital really did a 5 star full examination of his troubled ear . Finally my cat is relieved of the ear problem after Dr Nanton sedated Buddy and deeply cleaned his ear of the fungus infection he had.

My cat seems to be rejuvenated a day later .

If you own a cat this is where you need to take them for care.

Brookhaven Cat Hospital replied:

We are very happy to hear that Buddy is doing well. We thank you for your great review, and look forward to seeing you both again.

Excellent state of the art facility, highly organized, friendy & competant service. At times, I have found this hospital expensive but I return because its convenient for me and I like the doctor and his assistants.

Both Dr. Nanton and Suanne were so pleasant and helpful. Suanne could not have been nicer on the phone and in person as we worked out the appoinrtment details, and I liked that Dr. Nanton treated us as participants in the healthcare of our cats-- he respected us, allowed us to take an active role, and actually listened to us. I'm utterly impressed and wish that I could take them with us when we move!

I have been taking my cat to this vet for a few years. Having owned cats for many many years, I recognized that the routine bills were a bit more expensive and the owner is always trying to sell us and upsell products. However, I liked that this vet specializes in cats. On our last routine visit, my cats dental disease had not gotten better so the vet recommended a teeth cleaning. When I asked how much it was he showed me and was led to believe the cost would be around $400. I told him that was too expensive right now, but we would save up a little and do it when he had one shot that was due. We made the appointment that day. Imagine my shock when I arrive to pick up the cat and the bill was just over $1300 for the teeth cleaning (under anethesia, with xrays and antibiotics). First of all, I never approved xrays and antibiotics and second, $1300 is highway robbery. I have talked to vets in both Long Island and other places and they agree that price is outrageous. However, what is more upsetting is that I was not even given a report on what they did. The doctor was not there at 9:45 when I dropped the cat off and not there at 3:45 when I picked him up so I could not ask him. When I asked the vet tech she could only give me a run down of the bill. She told me to brush his teeth, which we have been doing and to encourage my cat to drink water because his electrolytes were a little low. If you spend that much money you would think there would be a report or a phone call to explain. And despite expressing my displeasure no one has called me to address it. So, we're done. We just can't afford these surprises. This vet it unethical and the extra cost is just not worth what I'm getting.

Brookhaven Cat Hospital replied:

We are indeed sorry for the error we made in not providing you with an estimate before hand. It is our normal procedure to give our clients a detailed treatment plan prior to any major procedure. This was not done and we apologize. At no time did we state the procedure would cost $400.00 The procedure was performed according to acceptable standards of care, including full mouth dental radiographs for which there is no good excuse not to perform. Indeed we would be doing a great disservice to you and your pet if we made no effort to uncover pathology under the gumline, and just cleaned the crowns of the teeth. A full blood panel was run on our inhouse laboratory prior to the procedure to ensure safety, and your pet was carefully monitored under anesthesia. Fluids were administered, and medication was given to ensure there was no post operative nausea preventing an early return to eating. The antibiotics were to prevent spread of bacteria in the blood stream as result of the dental scaling and polishing. We did follow up with a phone call the following day at 1:19 pm. Unfortunately the mailbox on the phone # you gave our office was not set up and could not accept messages. We are happy you kept the appointment for your free post dental exam in which a full discussion of the procedure including a review of the radiographs and recommended future dental care was given. We hope you continue to bring your pet to us in the future.

My kitty, Lenny was very badly behaved and the care was exceptional despite his "catittudes". Thank You

I was disappointed my husband was charged a $25 fee to be shown if a device he bought at this practice was working properly.

Brookhaven Cat Hospital replied:

We are very sorry you are disappointed, but it was necessary to ensure that the proper technique was being used, since you were both having difficulty with it. Thank you for drawing this matter to our attention

Dr, Nanton is the best vet for your cat, bar none. He is caring and compassionate. Services at the hospital are complete. He has a lab, surgery, ex-ray, everything needed for diagnosis is there. You will get all your questions answered expertly. The vet tech is also excellent. My cats have been patients there for 11 years. I wouldn't trust my with anyone else.
