For many years I have requested and received a cleaning with the Sonatube (sp) method and it worked well with my allergic problems to metals. Scraping was not good and I have a long history of gum bleeding in a certain area. This was the first time that the Sona method caused instant pin pricking type pain during the procedure. The hygienest said perhaps the tube was new and sharp. Whatever it was I had a painful mouth for the rest of the day and used warm salt solution to ease the pain. It has now gone away and my mouth is no longer sore. I am not sure whether it was the instrument or the technique (too deep) that caused the problem. I have little plaque and perhaps cleaning should be once a year.
