I brought my dog in for vaccines and to check areas she had been scratching at a lot. The doctor decided that the scratching issue was a concern and to treat that first and do the vaccines at a later date which I guess was OK, but it means another office visit charge for me which I can't really afford. There was a bad mat on the dog's back that I wasn't able to cut off myself because it was so close to the skin and the skin was raw & hurting and the doctor had the technician soak the area and cut the mat off, but when they brought my dog back to the exam room, she had shaved a huge area around it. I am very disappointed that they never asked if it was OK to do that - the area is at least 4X the size it needed to be & it was unnecessary to do that! I was also facing a bill of over $300 by the time the wound care & medications were all added, which I also couldn't afford (especially since it will be over $200 when I have to get the vaccines done soon), so I opted to get script written & purchase the prescriptions on my own. I also declined a steroid injection which would have been even more money. I had initially expressed my concern over the costs of getting just the vaccines & bloodwork for the heartworm test vs. purchasing their Silver Whiskers package with the vet tech at the beginning of my appointment and apparently she never conveyed any of that to the doctor. I guess from now on I'll need to have an itemized estimate before anything is done.
