I very much appreciated CAH seeing Tuukka on such short notice; the medicated shampoo and mousse quickly cleared up much of his skin infection and halted its spreading. Everyone at CAH is friendly and informative, and other people bringing in their pets are all friendly and engaging. I appreciated the information about different immunizations, as well as the folder packed with additional information. Tuukka's microchip has been registered with www.foundanimals.org, a non-profit and free registry for pets rather than using the HomeAgain website with their annual fee of $19.99 and automatic renewal; they received many negative reviews.
I had concerns about Tuukka living on a raw food diet as the breeder advocates for, and Dr. Korry explained her beliefs. Tuukka is slowly transitioning to something different, but he does love raw hamburger so I'm mixing that in with a large breed dry puppy food for now.
I do differ in opinion on how to train him, and he won't be trained on a rewards-based platform or by using a clicker. He also won't be abused or struck, but my 10 years of studying the breed prior to getting my pup has shown me that Japanese mastiffs are strong-willed but also eager to please; they respect the hierarchy of the pack.
