When I called on a Saturday afternoon with a colicky horse, I got their answering service. I received a call back from Dr. Schall within five minutes even though I was not an established customer. When I arrived I was greeted immediately by Dr's Schall and Richey. They listened as I gave a complete history. He had a slight colic the day before which on the advice of my usual vet, who was out of town, I gave 10cc's of Banamine & with 15 minutes he was eating & acting normal. Thinking it was just a gas colic and falling for his "I'm starving" look I fed him his regular ration that PM. My bad. I knew better. So when he wasn't very hungry the next morning I watched him closely. When & became more listless, preoccupied- just not his normal gregarious self on my normal vet's advice, (still out of town) I called the Dearing Clinic. I was very impressed by Dr. Schall & Richey- their complete assessment of my horse, their compassionate yet impeccable bedside (stall side?) manner & very practical treatment. No extraneous expensive & in this case unnecessary IV's, full lab panels etc. They used excellent "horse sense" literally & figuratively. They gave me a good plan to follow & instructions to call if anything changed or if I had any questions. I've had horses since I was a child & am an RN so I have a lot of horse & medical experience. I highly recommend them for the prompt, practical & excellent care my horse received.
