On my first visit, the cleaning was normal but they also performed a micro-camera based molar inspection and declared that I needed 8 micro-cavities filled. This would have been about $1200 worth of work with no insurance coverage. I have never had dental work in 48 years.
On the second visit, I was told I was having a panorex which I refused, noting insurance coverage limits and excess radiation. After letting the hygenist know that I would be the one deciding the type and frequency of my care, not them, I was told to leave the practice and escorted out. That was certainly a new experience. It turns out Dr. Henize wasn't even on site that day and I couldn't see him or talk to him.
Another word of caution: Henize only takes Delta Dental "premier." Unless you have this insurance, he is considered out of network and very expensive. My wife and children already left due to the high pressure sales tactics. My experience was far worse.
Although this review was posted anonymously, we are well aware of this individual and his behavior in our practice. It saddens us that someone would attempt to besmirch our practice reputation in this manner. There are a number of omissions and inaccuracies contained in this review, and it is important that they are addressed.
Our office uses appropriate modern technology to identify dental disease at the earliest possible stages, and although this information is given to our patients, there are never "high pressure sales tactics" used when we are recommending care to help people have the healthiest mouths and bodies possible.
The term micro-cavity is never used in our office. The decay that is detected with today's technology is called early stage decay. We recommend treating it early in order to conserve healthy tooth structure, rather than waiting until much more extensive (and typically more costly) damage is done. If an individual wishes not to treat this dental disease at an early stage, it is always their choice to make that decision.
Regarding frequency of diagnostic x-rays, we have recommended guidelines to protect our patients' health by assuring that oral disease does not go undetected. We are willing to tailor this frequency to individual requests, but there are outer boundaries beyond which we will not proceed, as we feel it would not allow us to provide an acceptable standard of care. Our hygienist was willing to discuss this tailoring possibility with this individual, but he was more interested in loudly and aggressively accusing our office of being horrible and high pressure, while at the same time demanding that we clean his teeth (which seems a bit incongruous, to say the least).
It is also important to note that this individual spent thirty to forty minutes hotly berating our office to both the hygienist as well as our associate dentist, Dr. Hudepohl, who was working that day because Dr. Henize was off (details that were also omitted from the review) before he was asked to leave the premises.
All things considered, our practice team handled a difficult situation with a difficult individual with courtesy and restraint. Our hope would be that he is able to find a practice that fits his wants and needs. Our hope for that practice would be that he conducts himself in a significantly more appropriate manner.
