My husband and I were very impressed with the quality of care our dog, Dutch, received at his recent appointment. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted with smiles and were esorted to an examining room quickly. The assistant who took a brief history of Dutch was very polite and professional. As we watched Dr. Withers examine Dutch, we were very impressed at his thorough technique and obvious knowledge about dogs. In fact, in the 16 years we've had Dutch, neither my husband nor I recall him every receiving such a thorough examination. We were equally impressed with Dr. Wither's reluctance to perform unnecessary and costly procedures, such as x-rays and bloodwork, when he felt the treatment outcome would not differ regardless of the test results (in this particular case. I'm sure his treatment varies greatly from pet to pet.) I do not live in Michigan, but if I did, Dr. Withers would definitely be our pets' veterinarian!

Caring

The staff was very helpful and kind to us and our new kitten. They were helpful in providing timelines for transitioning him into our home and planning out his vaccinations as well.

It's obvious that the staff at Eighth Street Veterinary Care is devoted to pet / animal care. They are extremely gentle when they handle my cat - from the annual check-up & vaccinations to nail clipping and necessary grooming. My cat can be pretty feisty, but he is not adversely affected by our short, timely appointment. Everyone is great from the moment you walk in the door, and I like being greeted by the office kitty.

I called with concern about our cat having worms. The fecal study was negative but she rarely uses the litter box and I believe the sample was old. I have seen two worms clinging to the cats rear leg near her anus. I was told that a prescription could not be made without an office visit. Why should I need to pay for an office visit when I have visualized the worms? I ended up calling our old vet and was given a prescription without any hassle. This is the first time we've had a negative experience but vet care is extremely expensive and I want to be happy with our care.

Eighth Street Veterinary Care replied:

Dear Anonymous;

We are sorry you consider this to be a negative experience. There are over the counter deworming remedies available without prescription for anyone who prefers to provide their own diagnoses and treatments. As doctors, we are obligated to prescribe only with a valid doctor patient relationship, and actually liable if we were to wrongly prescribe without seeing a patient. We are sorry for the misunderstanding.
