We took our car back after several successful visits for a slightly rough idle. Euroworks charged me over 500 dollars for sparkplug wires, air suction hoses and other items they thought were causing the problem then said they weren't sure what was causing the problem but that I would need to spend 3000 dollars to try and fix it. I took my car back paid the 500 and got it back with even a rougher idle than when i first took it in. Additionally they overfilled the radiator overflow bottle..... They may be cheaper than the dealer but are they better?
Dear Mr V.
Thank you very much for the feedback.
We absolutely set the coolant level in the reservoir slightly above the "MAX" line.
Firstly, the cooling system in your A6 had "boiled over" during our road-test, causing coolant to blow out of the reservoir pressure cap. Even though we vacuum-filled the coolant, there was still a possibility of an "air pocket" remaining in the system. That air pocket could cause a later drop in the coolant level.
Secondly, we had also identified a coolant leak at several engine block coolant pipe seals. Those leaks could also cause a later drop in the coolant level.
The technician invested multiple (unbilled) hours inspecting and diagnosing your vehicle. The torn spark plug wires and rotten engine vacuum hoses were positively identified as faulty, the engine was running properly after their replacement. The subsequent "rougher idle" did not occur until after the cooling system failure described above.
I apologize that we did not go over our findings with you in more detail. At your convenience, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss with you further, the various steps taken by our shop in diagnosing your concerns.
