I have been ultimately disappointed with Gahanna Animal Hospital. I've been going there for two years since moving here from California, and in that time I do not think that I have seen the same vet twice. Consequently, I don't think any of the vets truly know me or my pet. This is important to me, especially now. I have an old dog that is on the decline, and I need to be able to discuss quality-of-life and end-of-life decisions with a vet who knows her and who I am comfortable with. Unfortunately, I don't know who that would be at GAH. I realized that I just don't know who to talk to there about my concerns, and at this point I most certainly would not take my dog there for euthanasia. I do think GAH cares about the pets that come in, but it's very generic. I feel very anonymous there.
In an effort to prepare for my dog's end, I initiated a relationship with a vet that does house calls and would be able to come to my home when the need arises. I called GAH to get my dog's records to provide to this new vet, and they agreed to email her records, but when I received them it was merely a 3-page transaction history (when I bought a medication, when there was a blood test, but no actual detail). I called to explain why I was asking for the records, and I requested perhaps copies of what was in my dog's file. I was told they "don't normally do that".
Plenty of vets do that. My last vet in California did that. The vet before that one did that. I requested information in the interest of my pet's comfort and was denied by GAH.
I think the 3 is a fair review, although I contemplated a 2. The vets are perfectly competent. It's just impersonal. One vet saw my dog recently and ordered bloodwork, another one who hadn't seen her called with the results. I don't know veterinary medicine, I work in the technology field, but I know from my own experience that quality suffers when projects get passed around....no one is an expert. This seems to apply at GAH...no one there is an expert about my pet and it's frustrating.
