I recently attended my annual appointment which included cleaning. Hygenist was friendly, engaging and gentle. One issue though was her practise of touching key board and cupboard handles with gloves on and then continuing with procedure without changing gloves. Having worked in healthcare field for 25+ years and attended numerous courses on infection control and reducing incidents of cross contamination this is not best practise. Common surfaces cannot be sanitized sufficiently to prevent cross contamination and touching anything other than sterile instruments with gloved hands simply adheres any contaminants to the gloves which then ends up in the patients mouth if gloves are not changed.
