I very seldom give a 5 star rating to a business these days. The pandemic has been hard and as the old saying goes, "it's hard to find good help these days." However, there has been a very noticeable, and very positive, change in the staff I encountered yesterday. From the moment I entered the receptionist was warm and welcoming. She actually looked at me, not just glanced, as we spoke. Helpful, informative certainly, but genuinely kind, professional and warm. I was not summarily dismissed as in the past. I wish I knew her name to thank her for humanizing the front desk! The assistant who did my preliminary exam was also wonderful, very patient when I asked her to repeat things as the masks make hearing soft speech difficult for me, even with hearing aids. She informed me that Dr. Nishi was running late so I had some time to read and relax. When Dr, Nishi arrived, he explained he was tending to matters at another location. In spite of his late arrival which probably backed his schedule up considerably, he was very thorough as always, not rushing at all, warm, caring and answered all my questions completely. The only name of the staff I remembered was Raquel, who took my order for new glasses. She also was thorough, friendly, warm and yet professional. As a senior patient, many times doctors and their staff tend to dismiss questions, or give short responses. This was not the case on this appointment, as it was with the staff in the past. In previous encounters with the staff, I can't remember any who actually looked at me, (after all it is all about the eyes, isn't it?), recognized I was a person and not dismissed. The appointment yesterday was the best doctor visit of any kind I have had in many, many years. Thank you all!

One of the key factors about Dr Nishi is the culture of the practice at Glendale Optometric Center of Glendale CA, of clear communications and setting proper expectations. My last exam was 10 months ago and I was experiencing difficulties with my vision not being as clear as it was just months ago. I was told that I have cataracts of the type that when changes come to them it will occur quickly. Well a change of almost three diopters in one of my eyes has occurred but the good news is my vision is correctable to 20=20. Understanding what is going on is reassuring that action needs to be taken. So thanks go to Dr. Nishi and the excellent care I have received from him and all the staff at Glendale Optometric Center.
