Dear Mr. Lee,

Thank you so much for your review, your honesty, and your continued support of our practice. I work extremely hard to offer the best, the most reasonably priced, and most excellent health care for you and all of our patients. It is quite expensive to run a dental practice and so there has to be a fee for the services we provide, otherwise we would not be able to afford to give you the kind of care that you have become accustomed to. Every year I do a professional analysis with my accountant (who services over 100 dental practices in our area) to make sure that our fees are either in the range or well below those of our neighbors. The fee for a cleaning and an exam together is $145.00. Although the annual exam may feel brief it is very valuable and completely customized to your needs. I strive to spend as much time as needed to answer all questions and concerns. If there are any more serious issues I am always happy to bring a patient back to see me separately for no additional charge to discuss and offer a diagnosis and all pertinent treatment options. One of the many things that we check during the periodic exam is for tooth decay. When we treat tooth decay early all that is typically needed is a simple filling. If left untreated (due to too many missed exams) this can lead to significant tooth structure loss creating more difficult and expensive treatment including crown, root canal, and implant treatment. I also conduct a thorough periodontal examination. Treating periodontal disease early with non surgical periodontal therapy is much less expensive, less invasive and much more comfortable than gum surgery. I conclude my examination with an extensive visual oral cancer screening for no additional charge. I thoroughly check your mouth concentrating on the high risk sites including the soft palate, later border of the tongue and the floor of the mouth. Finding things early is a great way to save your health and your wallet in the long run. I certainly will continue to try and find ways to keep your costs as low as possible while maintaining the type of care that you and all of our patients expect.
