Having a major phobia of going to the dentist as a result of a horrific and traumatic experience with a dentist as a child, and as such I've not visited the dentist for over 30 years. My wife who has gone to Dr. Burley for her entire life convinced me that I should go to him and take care of a toothache I was having. Well, I immediately declined and was adamant about not going. In time, she persuaded me and made my first visit. My wife came with me for moral support (and to make sure I actually went). I was shaking and sweating as I sat in the waiting room. The staff recognized that I was a nervous wreck and were extremely kind and took me on a tour of the facilities.
They then called me back and after a few x-rays, put me in a room waiting for the dentist. Still sweating and shaking, Dr Brandy Behrens came in and before she started doing anything, took about 10-15 min to talk to me about my job, hobbies, etc. She also told me various things about herself. It really helped me calm down a bit. As she worked on me, she mentioned I needed fillings on some cavities. As she did the fillings, she was so gentle and was extremely caring on if I was feeling pain. I didnt feel the needle from the numbing agent, and the entire procedure went smooth, even though my hands and feet were shaking. It was her kind demeanor, gentleness and quick work that made a distinct impression. I just returned from my second visit of which I felt ok enough to go alone - to finish some other fillings. My previous experience made this second visit SO much easier.
My wife said that all the Drs at Hagerstown Smiles are as kind and gentle as Brandy, however I must give major props to Dr Behrens. She is a true asset to the practice.
Take it from me - I have had a serious phobia of dentists for 30 yrs causing me to never go. If Hagerstown Smiles can take that phobia all but away, they can do that for anyone.
