This review is for my eyebrow sugar service only. I’m very happy with how my hair appointment went yesterday, and the way that the stylist worked quickly to fit in my root touch up, haircut, and blow dry/style with the limited time left after my brow appointment. As for this brow appointment, I was there for almost an hour and left feeling unsatisfied for the first time in all of my appointments over the years at Hoss Lee. The esthetician-in-training told me that she liked the natural shape of my brows—and then ultimately changed the shape of my brows. In the beginning I told her that I don’t want to change anything and only want to clean up the errant hairs underneath and in between the brows. During the process she mentioned wanting to “fix” the left one and had a supervisor come in to help guide her. Now the left one is a different shape than it’s ever been and both of my brows are thinner than I like them to be. My opinion is that she was very focused on making conversation during the appointment and was not as focused on listening to my request to “just clean up.” At the end I started to leave toward the main lobby and her supervisor sternly reminded her to “walk your client out” which was kind of awkward for both of us. She was a friendly, lovely person, but I’m not sure if she’s ready to be working on client’s faces just yet. I know that small mistakes are going to happen as people practice new skills, but I’ve had many newbies sugar my eyebrows there before and none have ever touched the shape of my brows when I was clear that I only wanted to clean up stray hairs. To me, it’s a big deal to know the difference, and also to have the wisdom know when it’s okay not to make small talk because you need to focus on the work being done.
The student gave a great color and cut. She needs to polish her hosting quality. Example, not in the tool tray but the other surface. I needed to have a surface for my water bottle which wasn’t given to me until I asked for a spot to place my bottle. Also she lost track of time for the hair color. The student next called her over and she then combed out the scalp color. She apparently didn’t have a device for a timer. She talks a little too much, Needs to be a bit more quiet. But great cut and color.
I arrived and the person who came to greet me was not the person I asked for and was told I would be with but she was wonderful! She did a very nice job and was very kind and the price was great so I gave her a big tip, even the check out person made the comment it was a nice tip. Thank you Emily.
I was early to the appointment, but was accommodated and didn't have to wait. The salon was not busy at that time. The receptionist was very cordial and my stylist was very nice. She worked very quickly to trim my hair and bangs, but didn't ask for much input about how I wanted it cut other than length to cut off.
The bangs came out a little shorter than I anticipated but they are ok, and will grow out quickly anyway. They probably should have been layered, the stylist didn't ask about that. Also- I would suggest that the stylist offer a mirror so that the client can see the back of her head after the cut next time. Over all the experience was plesant and quick.
