This was my first visit back to this office in 4 years since Dr. Weinstein left. I had an appointment with Dr. Andrew Holocek. I really appreciated his suggestions regarding treatment and the work that he did (which involved a crown). I would recommend him and readily go back to him. On the other hand, I had major concerns regarding the dental assistant. She said she had only been there a week (this was at the end of October) but that she has worked in the field for 18 years. She was kind but very scattered and disorganized. When she was working on my teeth, she seemed to be having a hard time and she dropped the temporary crown in the back of my throat which almost made me gag. I had to sit up quickly and spit it out. She pressed the dental instrument she was using so hard on the corner of my mouth that it pinched the skin between the dental instrument and my teeth so that I had a bruise and pain on the side of my mouth for three days. I felt the intense pressure even though my mouth was numb. I told her she was pressing too hard two times but she did not change the pressure or positioning of the instrument. Several times she laid the suction instrument across my lap with the part that goes in your mouth hanging down off the chair. I thought, "How unsanitary!" I lifted it off my lap and held it for her. A day after the treatment, I started getting intense pain in the area where the dental work was done. After 4 days the pain was so great that I thought I might have an infection. I called and they had me come in that day. Dr. Todd Matheson was on duty. I was thankful that they squeezed me in but Dr. Todd seemed to be making excuses as to why I had the infection. When he started talking about how I might need to have a procedure to remove excess skin from my gum/check area (where the infection was), I just wanted to get out of there. They gave me a mouth rinse and a prescription for an antibiotic. The infection went away and I have had no more problems with my gum/cheek area. When I went back for the permanent crown to be put in, all went well. Thankfully I had a different dental assistant.
