I am a new client at Chasen Smiles. Besides the full set of detailed x rays, the hygienist measured the pockets around my teeth and for the first time in my life, this procedure hurt. I felt like she was pushing through the flesh at the bottom of some of my gum pockets. When finished, she declared that I would need my teeth scaled which involves a deep cleaning of parts of the root of my teeth. I was extremely surprised because I have always liked to floss my teeth and brush with a soft sonicare tooth brush at least 2 times per day. I have always had healthy gums prior to this. So I submitted to scaling of 1/4 of my mouth and it has taken more than 2 weeks for the gums around those teeth to recover. I was scheduled, at great potential expense for 3 more scaling appointments where they would finish the other 3 quadrants during appointments of approximately an hour each. I decided to go to another reputable dentist for a second opinion where after remeasuring all my pockets, I was told by that dentist that she didn't like to give a bad report about other dentists but my gums were healthy; the pockets were fine, and I had been misinformed. I don't need my teeth scaled. I felt like the Chasen Smiles office looked at me like I was an opportunity to make money.
