Six months ago I was in a car accident that disabled my right hand and wrist; approximately the same time I was last in for a cleaning. I arrived at the office today, utilized their sink to brush my teeth because at 1:30 pm I still had not brushed them, and nervously sat in the chair. It was like coming to class without preparing for the test. It was a likely excuse for poor brushing and no flossing since my last check up. But Vicki, diplomatic hygienist as she is, told me the sad truth that , while an excellent reason, it reflected in my teeth and gums and overall, my dental health had declined remarkably in 6 months. It was the worse checkup in the 10 year history I've been a patient of Dr. Karen Izzo.! Vicki helped me regain my 'clean slate' once again; extra care to the detailed cleaning; extra coaching to get back on track by recommending flossing tools on the market, and getting back to my gifted electric tooth brush which allows less frequent twists and turns of hand and wrist, very helpful during my recovery. She also noticed more clinching and grinding signs on my teeth and gums and reinforced the cause to get out my night guard and use it again. It was the most embarrassing time I can remember, but I want to share it with you because 6 months means a lot!!!
I never knew how important it is to catch declining dental health. But they caught it in time to coach me back to good habits, and keep further deterioration from occurring with gums and teeth, already past their prime...by 60+ years. I sincerely want anyone stalling a visit because of poor dental habits to pick up your cell phone today before you go to bed, and give Dr. Karen's office a call. They're therapeutic in "cleaning the slate", getting you back on track with dental hygiene, and never make you feel any less for it. They're so happy to help, and meet you more than half way on any trouble areas you may have in your dental habits - they have answers we never heard of. Don't be afraid to find out where you are with your teeth and gums. Let them have them for 30 minutes and you'll say as I did, "Wow, glad I did that today!" Dr. Karen and staff - you're wonderful. Thank you for taking good care of me.
