I am new to Virginia and this dentistry was recommended to me by a colleague of my partner. The person told my partner that the practice's first impulse is to suggest costly procedures, but that they were otherwise fine and worked well with our insurance. As I was warned, they did immediately suggest a costly procedure before they had even done the cleaning I had scheduled and then refused to do the cleaning until I had the $1000 procedure done even though I said multiple times that my insurance wouldn't cover it. I was also surprised that their equipment did not seem to be updated, which made the x-rays more uncomfortable than necessary. However, perhaps the worst part of the experience was the dentist. She had no bedside manner and was rude and dismissive, particularly when I asked about alternatives to doing the costly procedure while I waited for the next insurance enrollment window. The dental hygienist was not gentle and was also persistent about the procedure (she refused to do my cleaning), but she was otherwise friendly. The bright spot in this terrible experience was the receptionist and the billing specialist; Both of them were knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. I went to a meeting right after my appointment and when I shared about my experience with my colleagues, three of them said they had similar experiences with this dentist and never went back. Since this experience, I went to one of the dentists two of them recommended and had a great experience; after I effusively thanked them and told my new dentist about this experience, two of the dentists from the practice examined me and agreed that there was no reason why the procedure couldn't have waited and were appalled that the dentist and hygienist refused to do the cleaning in the meantime. In glass half full news, I have had a couple of people tell me that though they have experienced or heard unfavorable things about this practice that their children's practice is pretty good.
