I only had an oil change so I'm not in a position of giving broad critique. But please note: I checked the oil level afterwards on a level surface and it looked like it was overfilled, perhaps by as much as 1/2 inch. I brought the vehicle back in front of the shop and one of the gents in the office rechecked the oil level and confirmed that it was overfilled but told me that it would not cause a problem.
I decided to research the issue. A google search for "overfilled RAV4 hybrid engine oil" came up with a very long list of comments, including some alarming stories about Atkinson engines (the type of engine in hybrid vehicles) sustaining damage from being over-filled. However, from my experience (I was an auto-mechanic and shop-owner for 30 years), I decided your technician is correct and the overfilling is not sufficient to cause a problem.
However: I suggest you use the official factory spec of 4.8 quarts (instead of 5 quarts) to refill these engines just so you prevent these kinds of questions from coming up in the first place.
Please take this comment as friendly advice and not any sort of overall criticism.
