I went for a massage because I was given a gift certificate. As an older guy (whose out of shape), I was apprehensive about going to spa to begin with, yet along getting a massage. In fact, I got the certificate six months ago and had put it off. The receptionist is welcoming. The atmosphere is quiet, very few people and not to "girly". Tomoko made me comfortable and told me what she was doing as she did it. She checked with me throughout the massage to see if the pressure level was good, if I was warm / cool enough, etc. I enjoyed the massage and had decided by the end of it that I would come back again. That says a lot about the experience given I didn't want to go to begin with.
One last thing I really appreciated: I think as part of the relaxing atmosphere, Tomoko spoke quietly. As soon as I told her I'm hard of hearing, she spoke loud enough for me to hear throughout the massage. People often go right back to speaking quietly and I have to ask them to speak up repeatedly. Tomoko didn't do that which I very much appreciated.
