I have never had a cleaning where I did not see the doctor after it. Is this something your office does? What is the reasoning of not having the doctor come take a look?

Hello Sharon, our practice philosophy is to be as conservative as possible, and treat our patients as we would want our family treated. In my experience most patients do not necessarily benefit from X-rays and an exam by the doctor every 6 months, as it increases costs to the patient, time in the chair, and exposure to more radiation. We typically do xrays and exam every 12 months unless a patient has a history of having a higher rate of dental decay and needing work more frequently - we make this determination on a case by case, personalized basis.
If you prefer or are more comfortable with exams every 6 months we can do that for you - just let us know.
Also know that our hygienist is a highly educated, trained, and experienced dental professional that checks your teeth during every cleaning, and alerts the doctor to anything that should be looked at. We also closely check any areas of concern that our patients mention during their routine cleaning appointment - with radiographs and an exam by the doctor as needed.
