Mentorship Journal Week #9
1. Tell me about your week. What did you do at your site?
This week at Artina, I helped the staff set up for an event they were hosting for the Delaware Chamber members. It was interesting to see the preparation with this event as Artina served appetizers and desserts. Even though I was not at the event, I know that it is a fantastic opportunity for the sales reps to connect with people and broaden their professional and personal networks. Also during this week, I helped count inventory for a program Artina has with the company “Cover My Meds”. This company buys from Artina frequently so they have a stock of their items in the shipping room ready for nytime they need it. This week was bittersweet because I have had a great time connecting with all the employees and I will miss seeing everyone.
2. How did you feel about leaving? Was saying goodbye hard, sad, strange?
I am going to miss all the people at Artina Promotional Product so much. They were all welcoming and showed me what they do on a daily basis for their job. The last day was sad because going to Artina has been a weekly thing and I would usually say “see ya next week”, but I won't be there next week. My mentor and the president of Artina said I am always welcome back and they said for me to let them know if I ever need any advice in my future endeavors. I was thrilled to hear that because they liked me being there. I will definitely miss Artina as it has become part of my daily routine.
3. Why did you sign up to take mentorship this year?
I signed up to take mentorship this year because I truly did not know what I wanted to do in my future. I had an idea of the type of workplace I wanted and the schedule but I did not know what best suited me. Family members and friends kept asking me what I wanted to do as a career and I would always just say “I don't know”. I thought it would be a great decision to take mentorship because of the benefits to seeing the real workforce and all that a career offers.
4. Was it what you expected? Why or why not? What kind of transferrable skills did you gain or sharpen?
This class was what I expected. It was very beneficial to me as I was learning not just one career field but a diverse selection of career fields that connect in some way. I will take with me the knowledge of networking, advice on finding something you're passionate about, and keeping up a great and comfortable atmosphere at work. I am so glad that I took this class as I got to build my networking with not only my mentor but many others.
