Modern Lock and Key was started in San Jose California in 1948 by Mr. Herb Lentz. Herb opened his shop at 821 S. First St., Modern Lock was purchased in 1985 by Ken Williams after Herb decided to retire. The shop stayed at the First street location until a fire destroyed the building. The fire completely devastated the shop and with no insurance all was lost. Ken relocated the shop to a very tiny location at 903 Vine street. and due to the size ,or lack of size, and the need to provide more mobile service to the Silicon Valley. We became more of mobile only locksmith. In 1993 I, Darrin Wicker, purchased Modern Lock and I am as determined as Herb was to continue the same, long-lasting, dependable service that we are known for. I am also to pleased to announce our 3rd location at 1615 Westwood Drive in Willow Glen. We were the first Silicon valley locksmith to have a web site that we still (as you can tell) write and publish our selves since 1996. Today we offer a mobile service as well as a full service shop. Since the beginning when Herb started Modern Lock we have always been a one man operation in order to provide the same great service to our customers each and every time. Now 64 years later we still run that same way with one small difference. Today my son David and I take care of our customers and our website. We are a true family owned and operated company. Our mission is even though we don't have a fleet of vans or an army of employees, we do have over 20 years experience and strive to provide our customers with a high level of service.
