Dr. Jarchow has been so incredible with all of our pets. His bedside manner so to speak with each has been attentive, compassionate and detailed. As for the humans, he has been informative, clear, and most of all super accommodating. I have never worked with a vet so considerate, kind, empathetic, knowledgeable and yet patient - especially with my children. My son who is so interested in science, Dr. Jarchow allowed him to look through the microscope. My son is still talking about it months later! On top of that, Dr. Jarchow has been very considerate to the amount he charges and he has billed us - even when other vets have charged for the same services and charged more, he has performed services gratis.
I have a funny story with an ethical learning for my children. We had just flown in from London over the weekend and got home Saturday night. About 4am, my daughter couldn't sleep and was up. All of a sudden she announced "Mom, there is a snake at the bottom of the bed!" I first checked to see that it was not a rattlesnake. I immediately saw that it was a baby California King. I was not quite ready to just grab it so I woke up my 10 year old son and had him catch it. It had lacerations on both sides of its body and did not look to be in good shape. We washed the wounds and applied Neosporin. Later that day (Sunday), I called VCA Animal Hospital and told them we had a snake with injuries and could we bring it in. I said I would be a good Samaritan and keep it until it was healed and give it the antibiotics and then let it go. They told me that they would absolutely would not see the snake - the guy at VCA was actually very rude and told me he would have to "end the conversation." I had asked if they were worried about payment. Why couldn't they give this poor little snake medical attention. He told me it was "our Corporate Policy." I got off the phone with VCA and my son was really upset as to why they would refuse to help the snake. We decided to wait a day and go to see the expert (Dr. Jarchow). He truly is an expert and the best Vet I have ever known. Mind you, I have lived in Denver, Princeton, Scottsdale, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Kensington, MD and I have always had a pet so I have been to Vets in many parts of the country.
During check in at Orange Grove Animal Hospital they asked me if the snake was our domestic pet. BTW...the folks at the desk are always so responsive and friendly, I lied and said yes. It was because my children were standing there looking at me like "Mom, this is an emergency." After checking in, I asked...why did you ask me if the snake was our domestic pet? The Orange Grove Animal Hospital staff told me that people bring in injured snakes that are not their pets and they take care of those snakes for free! I told my kids as we were leaving that while we lied to help get the snake the best medical attention it is always better to tell the truth. After all of that, it was a good lesson for my kids and I was happy to pay for the snakes surgery. I am have been impressed with Orange Grove Animal Hospital, I refer them to all of my friends and colleagues. Thank you to all of the staff at Orange Grove Animal Hospital! You guys are amazing!
