I've been coming to Osmosis for years and was a member for a year with a package where I came for the enzyme bath 1x week. I mention this only to give you an understanding of my perspective. The bath this time had the most intense pungent almost methane fume. It literally burned in my nose and on the back of my throat. The heat did relax my body but I felt like I couldn't breathe and had to fight the urge to get up and say that I couldn't take it. What I've always loved about the bath is that as someone who is fairly claustrophobic, I can't stay in a sauna long enough to get a sweat going. With the enzyme bath because my head is out and breathing "fresh" air, I can stay in and get a good detox sweat. This was awful and it really put me on edge.
Then I was taken to the hammocks where the attendant told me that my massage was back upstairs so to got to that waiting room when I was done, but she'd get me if I fell asleep. The music stopped rather abruptly so I went upstairs where waited for approximately 30-45 min. Finally I asked the front desk and she said my massage didn't start until 12:45. If I had known there was a gap, I would have loved to spend my time in the meditation garden or I would have stayed in the hammocks.
I should mention that I arrived at 10:30 am and would have expected to be done with all my services and have about 30 min to spend in the meditation garden by 2pm. With the added 45 min, I didn't get home until after 3pm. It was very frustrating as I deliberately scheduled in the morning so I could enjoy the rest of my day off. This was another point, where I almost just said "you know, forget it, I'm heading home" ad it made me enter into my massage miffed which is like the opposite of how I want to go into an expensive service.
My massage was disappointing too. I told the therapist that I needed a relaxation focus and a lot of work on my back and shoulders. She spent a good deal of time doing acupressure on my feet and spent very little time on the muscles of my back but really went to town on my rotator cuff. When I said shoulders I meant, upper back, neck, shoulders (I think that's pretty standard). She was a very sweet lady and her massage was nice, but she just didn't hit any spots that actually needed work. I felt like I came home and needed another massage. But I see now on your website that there's an upcharge for a "deep Swedish" so maybe the therapists are now being told to go super light and fluffy unless the customer wants to pay more money. Either way, it was pretty disappointing especially considering that I've had this therapist before and liked her work enough to list her on my account as one of my preferences.
Then I checked out. I mentioned multiple times that I was there for my birthday because they always send out an email promotion that gives 10% off for your birthday. I was told that they were comping me my hammock session since I was not told there would be a gap. But I got home and while they had said happy birthday to me upon check out I didn't get the discount. So I had to call. I haven't received an email or any kind of receipt that the discount was reversed so I hope that went through.
All in all, this was I think my most disappointing visit to a place I usually love. And I'm mad at myself for spending so much money to treat myself for my 40th birthday during a year that's been very difficult where I really needed the self-care and I feel like I just completely wasted my money. Honestly, I kind of want my money back.
As always the grounds are beautiful and I love the tea room.
