I am concerned as I have absolutely NO recollection of anything at all until approx 7pm Thursday following sedation at approx 8am. I need to know exactly what medication I was given and in what quantity as it seems excessive to me that I should be "out of it" for so long following my procedure. Also I had to leave work Friday afternoon as I felt that I was not "together". I have had this procedure 2 or 3 times before but have never experienced feeling totally drugged before. I am very concerned that I was over-dosed. Please contact me via phone on Monday. I also found a loose piece of tooth in my gum on Friday. Sad to say that I am unhappy and distressed by the entire experience.
We discussed your experience. even though you were able to have your treatment without pain or anxiety, you felt that "out of it" feeling. This did not happen on your previous sedation visits and in fact your were given less medication this time. the time it takes to metabolize the medication and have it wear off if determined by someone's biology. the medication you take, or do not take and even the non perscription herbals can often suppress your body's ability to metabolize the sedation medications. it some cases it can speed up the process and render it less effective. you did state that there was no change in meds since your previous successful sedations. another cause of that "not together" feeling is dehydration. failure to eat and drink after sedation can prolong the experience. that is one of the reasons we always give you juice at the end of the visit and encourage you companion to see that you eat and drink during the remainder of the day. your sedation was with pills. for future visits I would recommend i.v. sedation. this protocol allows us to administer smaller doses and evaluate its affect within minutes. it is always our policy to go low and to go slow with medications.
