My recent cleaning was fine as it usually is. However, this was the second time that I was told that my dentist wasn't in the building that day and couldn't give me an annual checkup. Like last time, I was told that I would be seen at my next appointment in six months. Last time, I did wait another six months. The hygienist had also made sure that a receptionist scheduled my next appointment while my dentist was available. This time, I insisted that I get examined, since this was the second time this scenario had occurred. Also, there's a plaque in every room that states their guarantee that every patient gets a yearly checkup. I was then examined by another dentist. The hygienist didn't seem concerned that the receptionists should be coordinating appointments and schedules properly and was told that my dentist also works in another practice. I suspect this is a common issue. I'm not concerned about my dentist not always being in the building, but I think it's the receptionists' responsibilities to know to schedule appointments accordingly.
I also ran into an issue with my appointment six months ago. I called to try to reschedule it. When I was told that the next closest appointment was several months away, I declined to reschedule (although, I suspected the person on the phone wasn't listening to what I was saying). When I arrived at my appointment, I was told that I had no appointment. Apparently, my appointment was rescheduled to the date that was offered to me over the phone. I was offered another appointment several months later, much too late for my regular regiment of cleaning. I only received a concession to have me put at the top of a list for being offered cancelled appointments after making a scene. I did eventually get a appointment soon after (at an inconvenient time). However, I after receiving that appointment, I was called again by the same person that incorrectly rescheduled me and was offered a cancellation appointment slot again. It sounded like I was not removed from the list after accepting a rescheduled appointment. I didn't return the call.
In short, cleanings are fine at this place, but I've had more scheduling issues there than in any other medical practice of any kind in my life.
Our apologies for the scheduling error. The front desk staff will be notified as we strive to always schedule correctly. As we schedule 4-6 months in advance, the dentists may not yet know their vacation/sick day/personal emergency schedule and therefore, you may have been originally scheduled on a day your dentist routinely works at this practice. In the future, we can always make a note in your appointment to call you if your dentist will not be in the office on the day of your hygiene appointment.
