First- I give Adam 5 stars because he is a great stylist and was super professional. This was my first time visiting Salon Ilo. He spent time before the hair cut asking me what I wanted, we looked at my Pinterest vision image and looked at my cut and assessed the layers. I have very thick hair so it took some time to get it to the sleekness I like. He never made me feel rushed in the process. I’m pleased with the cut so If you are looking for a detail oriented stylist, go see Adam.
However, my experience with the front desk was really, really bad. Salon Ilo has a reputation as a luxury salon but I was treated like it was a Super Cuts. When I arrived, I let the front desk person know that I had a 5:45 pm appointment. No “hello, how are you?” or “Welcome to Ilo!”. She had an annoyed expression and said , “ Well, you are his last appointment, so I need you to pay in advance. That’s $130.” I was shocked by her tone and by having to pay in advance for a service I hadn’t yet received, especially since I was a first time customer. I’ve never been asked to pay in advance at any salon in DC.
I gave her my card for the transaction. She ran it and I asked her if they had tip envelopes. She rolled her eyes and said “Um, of course” and handed me two of them. Another customer came up to the desk and she then ignored me.
Again, I had never been to the salon before and I did not know what Adam looked like or what floor he was on. There was a long staircase next to the reception desk.
I had to interrupt her social conversation with the other customer saying ,” Excuse me, can you please tell me where I go and can I hang up my coat somewhere?” I know I sounded annoyed by then because she suddenly got out from behind the counter and said “Oh, there’s a coat room upstairs in the back and Adam should be there.”
Once I met Adam, I felt welcome and put at ease. As I mentioned before, he never made me feel rushed. After my cut, I realized that the front desk person was gone although there were customers still in the salon. The salon closes at 7 pm and it was still 6:45. I suspect that she had somewhere to go and wanted to finish her duties. It left a really bad impression on me although I was happy with my cut.
First allow me to thank you for taking your valuable time to share your
unpleasant experience with our front. You are absolutely correct it was
terrible and very unprofessional . We are addressing this immediately to
make sure that it never happens again . I'm glad that you were happy with
Adam . I would like to try to correct the situation i will reach out to you
