As I am new to town, I am looking for a salon I can visit regularly. I found this salon on yelp, and after reading all the positive reviews, I spoke on the phone with the receptionist to book an appointment to get my roots colored, a haircut, and an accompanying blow out. This is important, because while I mentioned a blow out specifically to let them know I have pretty curly hair (a warning to please book me with someone who knows what they are doing), I didn't emphasize it. I figured this was a given. She told me that for the day I was requesting there would not be enough time for a haircut, which I was ok with because I really needed the color more than anything, and I had a special event the next day that I wanted my hair blown out for.
When I arrived and checked in, the receptionist (I am assuming this was the same person I had talked to on the phone) said "Ok, you are here for just a color, correct?" I said, "Yes, and a blow out." I wanted to be sure to mention it because of the way she said "just a color", something felt a little off. She then told me that I hadn't booked a blow out and that there wasn't time. I was told that if I wanted one I should have booked it separately, and there was nothing that could be done. Maybe this is a Highland Park thing, but I've never been to a salon where a blow out was not part of the normal routine of getting something done.I
was pretty upset, but I really needed the color done before the next day so I didn't have much of a choice in terms of leaving and going elsewhere. The stylist apologized (the receptionist, who I place the blame here on, seemed pretty unconcerned about it). The stylist said she would otherwise stay to do the blow out but she had to leave right after my appointment. I have a feeling it's because my hair is unruly and it would have taken some time to do.
I still don't understand how someone gets their hair colored and is just left with wet hair, as a rule. But I expected to at least have my natural curly hair styled. After my color and wash (and apparently some complimentary moisture treatment courtesy of the stylist, I think?) , I was kind of just left alone. I asked the woman who washed my hair for some hair product and was handed some to use on my own. So not only was I not given a blow out, literally nothing was done to even style my curly hair. The stylist did not come back to check on my hair, or really do anything. Of course, it wasn't until I got home (and my hair had DRIED) that I noticed the many gray hairs that still remain on my scalp. I know my hair is thick. I know its curly. But this is why I pay a professional to do this stuff instead of trying it at home. As I was leaving, the stylist who said she didn't have time to blow out my hair was coloring the hair of a woman I think may have been the owner or manager.
I'm so disappointed in this experience because clearly others have had a great experience here - that was just not the case with me. I was made to feel unimportant. The one bright spot was Anna, she washed my hair and was very friendly and kind. But otherwise, I left feeling unimportant and disappointed.
