I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with my experience at Shampoo Avenue B. I have curly mixed-race afro hair and have been getting it highlighted for 3 years in intervals of 8 months at the recommendation of leading UK hair stylist Sapphire Rose Lewis at Bleach Salon in Dalston. It has always come out evenly and perfectly, with a beautiful blend that people always mistake for my natural colour. After moving to New York and conducting a search for a new salon to keep up my highlights, I settled on your location having perused its social media page and admired the well-blended, even foil and balayage highlights I saw displayed there. I booked an appointment and asked to have a full head of ashy blonde highlights redone up to my roots. My stylist didn't seem to know how to brush my hair correctly and swiped at my dry curls a few times with a metal pad brush (the worst POSSIBLE choice for curl textures that risk breakage) before applying bleach to matted chunks. By the time she got to the top of my head it was obvious that she just didn't feel she had time to apply colour delicately or tease out fine, thin cross-sections of hair to bleach. So, after a pretty slap-dash job towards the end, I emerged from the heat machine and the post-bleach wash with huge tiger stripe chunks of literally white hair right at my center-part. It's horrible. I can't believe how uncaring it felt and I can't believe how terrible it looks. This salon obviously has talented colourists and does some great work, but man, I feel mutilated. My stylist was also obviously not pleased with her result but couldn't quite bring herself to admit it. Instead, I got a half-muttered explanation about how I have to come again for another round of highlights because she couldn't possibly do the right job "in the time frame alloted", which is a really terrible excuse for having given someone tiger stripes.
Really dissappointed. I'm not coming back to spend another 300 dollars to fix something that should have been done correctly in the first place.
