Very disappointed when I had to return my vehicle in March 2016 for the same diagnosed problem I had repaired in January 2016. I was shocked when I was told that repairs would cost approximately $900.00 - $1200.00 depending on Nissan parts. Shocked because in January, I paid over $645.00 for the same problem/repairs.
Thanks
Hello Ms. Williams
Thank you for being a very valued customer of Sherman's Auto Repairs
We sincerely regret your disappointment with reference to your last visit on March 22nd 2016.
It's obvious from your perspective that you are linking your first visit on January 13th 2016 to your second visit on March 22nd 2016 based on the check engine light being on.
Details from your January 13th visit indicated that the vehicle had two codes present in the system memory i.e. P0325 - Knock Sensor and P1126 - Thermostat Functions Intermittently or stays open too long. Based on the two codes our recommendation was to have the Thermostat & Gasket replaced.
Further, as part of our routine, we performed complete inspection of your vehicle and advised that the Water Pump was leaking in conjunction with a laundry list of other repairs that were recommended. Nevertheless, to address your immediate concerns, the Water Pump, Thermostat & Gasket were replaced. All codes were cleared, vehicle was test driven and returned to you with satisfaction.
Upon your return on March 22nd our (free) inspection revealed that the check engine light on was as a result of the system code P0420 - Catalytic Converter efficiency below threshold. Other diagnostic checks included monitoring Fuel Trim Data which revealed both upstream and downstream oxygen sensors reading similar indicating defective catalytic converter. Consequently, we Recommend Replacement of Catalytic Converter
Also, we found incorrect fuel trim data caused by a vacuum leak at the Intake Manifold Gasket. As a result, we recommended replacement of the Intake Manifold Gasket.
The estimate you were provided related to removal and replacement of the catalytic converter - with the option of using original Nissan part or Aftermarket.
Once again Ms. Williams, I do regret your frustration but please understand that we are dealing with two distinctly different issues. Please also note that on your second visit codes P0325 and P1126 were no longer present in the system memory, indicating the original problem was fixed.
