On October 22, 2018 Harvey and I had to visit Silver Heights Veterinarian Hospital due to Harvey swallowing some thread that got stuck in his tummy. At that time, he had to undergo surgery to remove the foreign body. He had to be hospitalized until the 25th of October, at which point he came home. Prior to leaving the hospital, Harvey was given IV antibiotics that are supposed to last for 14 days (as per the veterinarian). He was not sent home with any additional antibiotics or medications. All in all, our visit cost around $3,000. On October 31st, I found Harvey laying on the floor, unable to move. I was very frightened and took him to a different emergency hospital. As per the on duty veterinarian, Harvey had a near septic infection. They immediately put him on IV antibiotics, and had to undergo a second surgery to remove the infection. Needless to say, he spent some more time at the hospital, and it cost me an addition $3,000.

After contacting Silver Heights Veterinarian Hospital to inform of my experience, I was told they did not want to burden Harvey with too many antibiotics.

Unfortunately their wish to not burden him with antibiotics would have cost him his life. The financial burden was something that had to be considered when making a decision on whether I would go through with the second surgery, or euthanize. As a 26 year old person who has newly graduated school, 6000 dollars in 2 weeks is quite significant.

I was hoping to have this acknowledged, and suggest that the precautionary steps are taken in the future, to prevent this from happening to someone else who may not be willing to, or able to, go in debt saving their furry friend.

Thankfully after 3 months of recovery Harvey is now healthy and finally back to his old self

From our greeting upon arrival to the time we left, our overall visit was pretty good. However, the one glaring point that I happened to notice was the fact that we were literally bombarded with up-sales. Yes, I realize that animal health services are not subsidized like human health services, and that it is a "for profit" business, it just seemed overly pushy in my opinion.

I would also like to add that the staff that were directly involved with our cat's routine exam seemed very knowledgeable at what they were doing.

I like this place but I didn't appreciate being forced to get something that I don't want for my pet.

All the staff are exceptionally friendly, professional and genuinely like animals. The groomer is fantastic especially with my dog who needs special care for her nails. The receptionists are all incredibly friendly and professional both over the phone and in person. The Vet is very thorough and professional as well. The staff provide quotes for preventive recommendations and are not pushy. They were also able to fit my dog in last minute for medical care on top of a grooming appointment which Im incredibly grateful for. Overall we are extremely happy we picked this clinic for both grooming and vet services when we moved here.
