I came in to Dr. Simmonds because I had read an article in the "Orlando" magazine of her being one of the best in the area, but when I came in and she examined my teeth (I went in because of a decaying tooth that was painful and just wanted it evaluated, and then schedule another appt for the needed procedure after getting clearance from my cardiologist). She gave me two options, root canal, or pull the tooth. I chose having the tooth pulled, immediately the techs began preparing me for the procedure, I felt ambushed, and was not at all ready to have the tooth pulled without the clearance from my cardio doctor.
My previous dentist would never have begun any major dental procedure without the consent of the cardiologist I listed in my paperwork, just as I listed this information in the paperwork at Dr. Simmonds' office.
I am sure she is excellent as described in the magazine, but my first impression was not a good one, and I will not return.
Dear Anonymous, First let me start by apologizing to you for feeling "ambush" in my office. It is our goal at Simmonds Dental Center to put our patients first and treat them like family. Just for a point of reference and information - The American Heart Association has changed their guidelines for cardiac patients and unless they have other morbities a medical clearance is not indicated. So based on this change in the past 10 years, there is no need to wait on clearance especially in cases of patients with tooth pain. I am sorry you were not ready to extract your tooth this day, if you felt more comfortable with the clearance from your Cardiologist, we could have waited. It is not our intention to force patients into any procedure they are not comfortable with. Thank you for your feedback and I wish you God speed. Sincerely, Dr. Simmonds

Dear Anonymous:
Thank you for constructive feedback. Let me first apologize for not providing you with the five star treatment you deserve.. First to address your concerns of your dental benefits, I assure you most patients are unaware of their dental coverage because it is so different than medical.. This being our experience, we go the extra mile to inform our patients in advance of their coverage or the lack thereof.. This by no means is an "antic" - no one likes financial surprises so we try to minimize that (as much as it is in our power to do so)... At the end of the day, it is the insurance company who has the final say on reimbursements.. Secondly, I always try and connect with my patients on a personal level, then a doctor-patient relationship.. If this balance was tilted with too much personal and you left my office feeling you were not informed about your dental concerns, I have done you a disservice and I sincerely apologize.. Going to the dentist is a very fearful and unpleasant experience for many, and I do my best by trying to take their minds off of their fears by just connecting..not a meet and greet. Ms./Mr. Anonymus, we do sedation in our office, but I can tell you, the number of people just by relating on a personal level and just simply talking and being heard, do not even need sedation... Lastly, I understand your needs is just for the dental services as you describe it "less than desirable" cleaning, this is the foundation of a healthy mouth and we celebrate this .. It is trivial by no means.. I agree that it should be done in patience, kindness, cheerfulness and humbleness. Again, I am so sorry that your experience did not match you expectations... We care for the people we come into contact with, and we would have like to reach out to you had you left your name.. We want to make it right, if you allow us.. Thanks again Anonymous -
