I always feel comfortable at SAH, whether it's bringing my dog for an appointment, or boarding her while we're away. The people all seem very kind and caring towards the animals and their owners, and are also very competent at what they do, whether it's the medical professionals or the admin staff.
I have been taking my pets to this practice for over 20 years and have seen a decline in service over the past 5 years. I had an experience today with Dr Overman that may have been the catalyst for me to finally leave the practice. My cat is in very poor health and hasn’t been eating. Getting information about my options was like a game of 20 questions. I did not go to veterinary school and depend on the expertise of professionals to advise as to the most effective and humane care. I did not get that today. My cat has not eaten for several days and I asked what I should begin feeding her once she eats. I know that when a person hasn’t eaten for awhile they are advised to eat bland food. When a dog hasn’t been eating you give it boiled chicken and rice. However when I asked Dr. Overman about how to begin feeding my cat he acted as if he had never considered such a question! I had to ask in four different ways! If something so simple stumped him I have no confidence in his ability to help in a more complex situation.
Overall experience was good. I would have given 5 stars, but the hospital's continued practice of not allowing pet families (or even one person) to be in the exam room is just plain wrong. My regular vet (one of the best animal hospitals in northern VA) had no openings and my cat needed immediate attention, so I turned to SAH due to its good reputation. And while I did get to speak with the doctor by phone at the end of the exam, it's just not the same. My regular vet practice has been allowing pet families into their facility and exam room for months now. When possible, I will continue my business with them.
Scout came in for dental cleaning at a minimum. The vet called to explain clearly what she found, what she needed to do, after-surgery treatment and future plans. The technicians as always were very kind and considerate to us and to scout.
