I am being charged a $50 cancellation charge because I want to get a second opinion on cavities which can only be detected with a laser. When I was on the phone talking to the receptionist, she was trying to whipsaw me into filling those cavities with no regard to my needs nor concerns. Instead she berated me like I was an idiot making an uninformed choice before hanging up the phone on me.
My concerns about getting the cavities filled now are:
1. I have invisalign braces and I'm concerned the the last two or three months I have left will be effected by the fillings.
2. Is it best to have the fillings done now, or in the future so the teeth last longer in the long run?
Also, I've had to get more than one filling replaced by Dr. Neal which she originally put in. I've only been going to this dentist for 2-3 years.
Based upon our perceived mutually trusting and respectful relationship as your oral healthcare provider, we are very surprised and saddened by your recent review. You were not charged a $50 cancellation fee due to your inquiry for a second opinion. Dr. Neal welcomes second opinions as she stands behind her treatment recommendations wholeheartedly and would never recommend unnecessary treatment. When you reserved this appointment the prior week, you did not express any concern regarding the treatment recommendation until your phone call 5 minutes into your reserved appointment time. Had you done so, we would have been happy to address your concerns and been aware of your desire for a second opinion. The late cancellation fee is to recover the overhead expenses incurred by our office when patients are unable to keep their reserved appointments. Our office policy is that we require 48 hours notification. This allows us the opportunity to provide your previously reserved time to someone else. We do make exceptions for those unforeseen emergencies and illnesses.
The Spectra cavity detection aid used to detect your caries allows us the ability to maintain our conservative approach meeting your dental needs. We do our best to implement proven technologies into our practice to provide quality dental care. The Spectra has been awarded the 2014 and 2015 Top Caries Detector by "The Dental Advisors" , as well as other awards as a top dental product. Our goals in utilizing the Spectra are;
1) Less expense for the patient finding and treating cavities early as they are smaller.
2) Less discomfort by doing less invasive treatment as well as less time in the dental chair.
3) More preservation of sound tooth structure by treating problems earlier.
4) More confidence in recommended treatment by being able to see the decay for yourself.
5) Better oral health as well as your overall health having less tooth decay.
I am sorry that you were inconvenienced by having a restoration replaced. You were not charged for the replacement of this restoration. This is our office policy if a filling fails prior to its expected life span.
We are truly sorry if you felt your intelligence was being undermined. This was not our intention. With this in mind, your phone call must have dropped as Rebecca thought you had ended the call. We strive to treat every individual the way we would like to be treated ourselves. We would never intentionally make anyone feel differently.
