This has so far been by far the most positive and inspiring doctor-related experience I've had in all my 55 years. Dr. Stone's combo-platter of confidence, encouragement, knowledge and humanity make a huge difference. I wish every orthopedic surgeon I met in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, where I live, before finding him could be forced, eyes pried open "Clockwork Orange"-style to watch how he has interacted with me, both on the phone and in person.
I approached my PKR with a great deal of trepidation. Now, about 5 hours after Dr. Stone finished the surgery, I'm sitting on the couch with my leg propped up, typing this review. The clinic's plan for my rehab is clear. My pain (still under the influence of Percoset) virtually non-existent. The road ahead of me is long. I will no doubt have to deal with some pain -- or at least discomfort. But I'm psyched to get started.
Post-surgery, Dr. Stone came into the recovery room and reassured me that everything went according to plan. He also told me that my medial tibia and femur had been rubbing together, bone on bone, for long enough that they were "like marble." Which only confirmed my longstanding belief that I have a body like Michelangelo's "David." Kidding aside, his observation only underscored my only regret so far -- that I didn't find Dr Stone sooner.
P.S. -- Dr. Stone's support staff are so obviously cut from the same cloth as him: friendly, up-beat, helpful, knowledgeable, professional, inspiring... I could go on. But I need to do my next round of Day 1 post-surgical exercises. Onward!!!
