Dr. Eklund is very knowledgeable, has up to date eye diagnostic equipment and the latest computer toys and programs. The big negative I have is their bizarre billing process. They expect you to pay for the appointment, glasses, contacts etc up front, but do not give you a statement or receipt showing details for any of the expenses. I had to request one as first of all, would like to see what exactly I was charged and what insurance would cover and I need a hard copy for medical benefits reimbursement. What I asked for the detail I was told I can't get a bill at the time of service as have to wait for billing to be processed ...or something. They could "stuck a note" on my file to mail me this when it was ready and they couldn't email (or put on their secure patient portal ??)... I called a week later still looking for it and the gal I talked to was super confused as to what I was asking for. This happened last year as well when I went in to get new glasses etc. I just find it hard to understand how they do know how much to charge me but can't provide a statement of charges. ALSO I have been charged for tests I did not receive in the past and another time when went to pay a bill that I got from them in the mail they said insurance already made a payment... (what?) When I went to my previous eye doctors in Loveland, they always provided an itemized billing showing the charges when I checked out and paid...as with any purchase or service! You would think I was asking Wellington Eye Care for something out of the ordinary...?!!
I agree with you! How bizarre! I have investigated this further and I did find that apparently our transition to the new computer system has left us with a challenge. The billing is performed after I have transferred my findings from my current computer system to the new one. The whole ?data transfer? process at the end of an exam is a temporary yet frustrating process.
After speaking with our engineers we found that unfortunately for the next 3-6 months we are going to be faced with this challenge. We have been assured once the final transition to the new system occurs we will get back to the way things used to be and will have that information instantly once again.
Thank you so very much for your time and for pointing out this issue. We are excited for the day we do not have deal with this anymore and I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you!
Larry Eklund, O.D.
