I was new to the Yacht Club Salon, and although everyone was very friendly, I felt overwhelmed and a bit bombarded. Right away I was asked to donate to a charity cause (almost as soon as I walked in the door), and was taken on a tour of hair and nail offerings that I personally never use. I think it would be helpful to find out first if a new person is interested in finding out more about other services offered before taking them on this tour. Its nice to let people know where the bathroom was, and also if they need some water--so that part was fine. Then I felt pressured again during the haircut to donate to the same charity cause, and had to state clearly (and felt embarrassed about it) that I am working two jobs and a student right now, and I cannot afford to donate extra to outside causes. I shouldn't have to feel like I need to explain my finances to anyone!
Prices seem to be very reasonable, but when I checked out I was handed a bag that I thought was just a new person gift bag of some kind. It turned out I was charged for some products that I didn't ask for...but because I didn't check before I left, now I have to make time to go back and return them. I was recommended the product during my haircut, but I never told anyone that I wanted to buy it.
I would recommend to this business to try and be more sensitive to each individual that walks in. Find out first if they want to go on a tour or not, and if not, leave them alone. Do not bombard people as soon as they walk in the door with a charity cause. You can have information up a visible way, and send out emails, etc, but let it be elective. Also don't have hair stylists try and get their clients to donate as well during the haircut! Also, I wouldn't try and sell products aggressively during treatments unless the client clearly expresses interest on their own. This affected me negatively. I nearly decided not to return because of all the discomfort, but I do really like my hair stylist and I liked my haircut, so I'll be back.
Some things I really liked: I came with my daughter and they put us side by side, which was very thoughtful. It was easy to schedule and I felt welcomed from the beginning.
