Dr. Nicholas Hammermeister replied:
Our staff is fully vaccinated now so we have resumed polishing. We stopped polishing for only 9 months during the peak of the pandemic. This was a directive from the Ohio State Dental Board and the Centers for Disease Control in order to reduce aerosolizing the virus. We still scheduled a full hour for every cleaning appointment so the hygienists spent extra time hand scaling, the absolute most important aspect of the dental prophylaxis. Our patients truly appreciated the measures we put in place to ensure the safety of everyone while continuing to treat their dental health during this most difficult time. Our office made a substantial investment in protective barriers and the cost of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) has increased exponentially. None of this was reimbursed by insurance companies and we did not pass the additional cost onto the patient, as many practices have. We thank you for your patience.
