I asked for gloss on the hair and after the student told me there are 2 types gloss and demi gloss and she said she gave me demi gloss. I never heard of demi gloss and have been going to the Institute since 2006. It was not as shiny as I like when i always got gloss in the past. She should have told me there were 2 choices. Hair cut was fine

My hair just came out terrible, it’s yellow/orange, streaky, splotchy, hard blunt lines across the hair. And I had to sit in the chair for 5 1/2 hours. I understand they’re students and they’re learning. And I’ve been to aveda many other times and have had great experiences

I got the pramasana scalp experience and loved it, they stylist took her time working in the product and massaging my scalp. It was very relaxing. The one reason I gave four stars was because I asked to get my hair diffused (I have curly hair) but I could tell that she was not knowledgeable in that area and was kind of surprised by that because diffusing is pretty easy, just somewhat time consuming. Once she was done diffusing my hair, because of the way she had done it there was so much frizz and my curls had no volume or definition. Because of this I had asked her to braid my hair and she was happy to do so.

The people who scheduled the appointment and checked me in for it were polite and helpful!

The person who cut my hair was very scattered. It was a very odd appointment. When washing my hair they sprayed me in the face and scratched my forehead with their bracelet. While they were apologetic it seemed avoidable. Then they seemed to get lost on their way back to the chair as if they were unfamiliar with the space. During the cut they kept asking the same questions and seemingly didn’t remember that we had already discussed that. They skipped the last two check ins with the instructor, presumably because the instructor was handling a disagreement between two other students/employees that had just gone down. Ultimately they asked how I wanted my hair styled three times and after answering each time and having her ask yet again and not do anything I just took the cape off and left. By far the strangest Aveda Institute experience I’ve had in my 5+ years as a customer.
